Where has all the Money Gone? - the problem with
modern money

page 1 2 3 4

Offshore tax havens: between a sixth and a third of the world's wealth is now hidden offshore to avoid tax

The curse of the middlemen: half a century ago, American farmers used to get 41 cents of every dollar spent on the food they grew. Now they get just 9 cents, with 24 cents going on seeds, energy, fertiliser and other inputs, and 67 cents going to marketeers, middlemen, transport and supermarkets.

Intellectual property: the ultra-rich now siphon off much of the available money in the world, through interest payments, copyrights or intellectual property or rents - taking rights over other people's money, media, manufactures or homes.

Monopolies: just 13 big bread manufacturers now control a £3 billion industry producing airy nothingness with so little in it that it has to be injected with vitamins. It's the same in so many other industries.
