Does Money Exist? - you can't take it with you, after all

page 1 2 3

In this sense, debt is a serious spiritual malaise - poised between having and not having - and close to the word death from which it derives. In this sense also, the importance of money isn't in its substance - at the heart of most currencies these days there is considerable government debt - it is in the energy behind it. Currency comes from the Latin word 'currens': to circulate. That is what has the effect.

When we believe in it, and when we have relationships with each other, then money circulates and wealth grows. In itself, sitting in the bank, it barely exists at all.

It takes a village to raise a child. It also takes a village to create money, wrote the Buddhist biologist Jos Reissig. To be aware of this is to take a crucial step towards making our lives whole. Money cannot exist by itself; it has no value or meaning apart from us. Ultimately, the equation is very simple: we are it.
