In this sense, debt is a serious spiritual malaise - poised between having and not having - and close to the word death from which it derives. In this sense also, the importance of money isn't in its substance - at the heart of most currencies these days there is considerable government debt - it is in the energy behind it. Currency comes from the Latin word 'currens': to circulate. That is what has the effect.
