In the UK an estimated 5.5 million people a year are affected by food poisoning. Of those, 71% believed their food-borne illness was caused as a result of eating in a restaurant, cafe or fast food outlet.
More than 1 billion adults worldwide are affected by obesity with approximately 500,000 people in the US and Western Europe dying from obesity-related diseases each year.
