Mental Equipment - reality beyond our grasp

page 1 2 3

If our cognitive equipment evolved to meet the needs of huntergatherers it is not surprising that some aspects of reality are simply beyond our grasp, just as a dog picks up only part of your meaning: "blah blah blah fido blah blah." But we do seem to sense further reality through a dark distorting glass. Our vague perceptions are the stuff of mystics, poets, musicians and painters. Religions have tried to tie these realities down into concepts and words.

Even scientists describe things that fall beyond comprehension. Newtonian physics and Cartesian geometry made sense to our five senses. No longer. Matter is now known to be a mass of energy, more like a web of interpenetrating vibrations than like solid building blocks. Particles of energy are connected to each other in mysterious ways, seemingly unlimited by space and time. An experiment is changed by being viewed. Scientists now even suggest that 'string,' with ten dimensions and a whole world of magnitude below the size of molecules, could give clues for understanding the infinite vastness of an expanding universe. All this points to connections at a far deeper level than we will ever fully comprehend.
